Pose to pose research: The Animation Toolkit

Pose to pose animation is to create key frames for the characters when they are doing an action so that they appear moving from one pose to another. It is useful when planning ahead and calculating the timing and spacing before the actual drawing. During the lesson, we planned a pose to pose animation for the swinging pendulum and estimate the timing and spacing before hand which enables us as animators to have a rough idea how things are going to move and if they are moving logically or not.

These are some pose to pose examples from the Animation Toolkit and this explains to me that the key frames themselves have already shown a lot of information about the movement. With this information, it would be easier to fill the gaps in between later and have a better control of timing compare to straight ahead animation. However, this method might have restricted sudden changes of ideas that the whole scene might have to be withdraw.
