Joe has decided to rig the smart pig which I have given him a map and rucksack, while he is working on the background and environment, I am going to rig the rest of the two pigs and some tools that they will be using. Since we are not using UV mapping on the models themselves, the colour is less rigid and very comic according to the direction of the light. Toon is a very useful colouring engine and match our style and here is a little light test to view the character in a blue light. The colour of the body and the clothes changes in relationship to the colour of the light that brings a lot of drama to the scene.
Left page: Instruction of making an IK handle for the arms (Not sure if we need it since their arms are too short to have forearm but it is always good to learn new stuffs!)
Right page: Status of the position and colours used on the model. Need to unify three characters in order to make the story cohesive. This is a note taken to let Joe know what colours I used which is extremely useful when we are working separately. I sort of enjoy directing jobs for others and be organised make me feel like good leader.
I have been using a sphere to make the hole of the snout but it fails by appearing broken in smooth preview. There is always a problem with too many geometry on a surface. Therefore Mat suggest to use a rectangle instead which end up perfect on the snout. Using the tool booleans allow making inverted objects and in this case it works perfects on the snout.
This is how it looks like in normal preview. I have never thought of using rectangle as substitute, it shows that I cannot think out of the box that makes me feel down...for a while. Probably using maya is like drawing, a good sense is needed in order to produce unique products and it is a long term aim for myself.
I am happy with the final look! The models are basically finished and needed to be rigged as soon as possible since we are already fell behind. I wish to finish at least one rigging during this weekend and also catch up the rest of the induction of the demo model.
