A Trip to the Moon 1902

A Trip to the Moon 1902 is a black and white silent film made in France, directed by Georges Méliès. It was a 16 frames per second film which is a mixture of filming, stop motion and acting and it was a far-fetched and innovative animation that was extremely rare and popular at that time. The film included a lot of special effects and unique ideas for example using the property of stop motion to create the magical effects. This animation reflects the status of society of that time, I could understand that people at that time obsessed with science, knowledge and new technology. Animation was possibly the best method for them to visualise their imagination and creativities; this was also effective to spread a thought and share ideas within the citizens. The iconic scene of the rocket landing in the moon's eye is still impactive today and this shows the power of a successful animation.
