I was absent at the morning section on that day when Matt introduced the task and which made me more nervous on this maya modelling project because I am not good at maya that scared me a lot. However, I noticed that there are videos and references online that can be followed step by step which is extremely useful to get familiar with all the tools and the techniques to model. Since I did not pay a lot of attention on maya last year, I really think this is a good opportunity to make myself comfortable with maya and produce a 3D piece of work at the end of this module.
By following the video, I started the model on a cube and manipulating the vertex and edges to create different curves and shapes. I beginning to enjoy the process because I achieved what I want successfully and it is really interesting to shape the model using different tools. The extrude tool is mainly used in this model which allow edges to extent so as to elongate the shape and create external parts. Switching edges to vertex time to time allow more refine outline of the model and I have no problem using them. So far so good!
The first problem I faced was something I did not notice through working and Matt pointed it out. The colour of the faces show the direction they are facing and there were a part of the faces differ from the rest and these were the faces that faced inward. I had no idea how this was done and I did not know how to solve it.
Matt taught me a few useful tools and the way to fix the problem. Starting by selecting the wrong parts in the face mode, go to [Normals] and [Reverse] and DONE!
The faces are all facing the same direction and function normally again. I think I am starting off good proudly and I pick up really quickly. This is a lot easier than I thought which create much motivation to keep playing and experimenting on maya. I want to keep this enthusiasm until the end of the modelling and hope there would be a huge improve in skills during the process by paying close attention to the video guide and the direction of the faces.
