Strike A Pose- other emotions

Amusement
Okay, I know this picture looks like I have a stomach-ache but actually it is my pose for amusement. I noticed how different it looks from picture compare to what is in my mind and this encourages more exaggerated facial expressions and postures in the maya character.

I spent a lot of time figuring out the use of different tools and how to apply materials and the lighting, after a lot of mistakes and messing up with the demo I finally feel more confident working with maya. It is definitely simpler than I thought and it is capable for a variety of effects!

I used yellow for its body and a material that will reflect light because yellow is closely linked to happiness and joy and the jelly-like body is very fun to look at. However the brows disappear in the background since they are also black so I would like to change them into brighter colours. The limited angle of the mouth and the fixed eyes disable a crazy laugh from it so I struggled to give it a amusement look but a horrible smirk.

There are three spot lights, one from both right and left and one from above. Too many yellow makes the screen really buttery and I would like to reduce the yellow and add some contrast colours to it and maybe possibly some props that it can interact with.

Anxiety
This pose is definitely not anxiety and only I noticed it when modelling. I was thinking about nervous and anxious at the same time and trying to look depress however this is not working for the cartoon character because it seems like a exhausting pose so it is going to have a new pose to get reference from.

This pose I have been modelling is a scare jump pose and it is quite suitable for anxiety in my view. I found out that the brows can be bent which is perfect for more different emotions and I started playing with the index in the channel box.

I make the character green so as to show thrill and panicky. It is standing on a narrow pole inside the dark that is why he is anxious.

I do not like this camera angle since it can not tell anything about the character and I did not give it light. It is such a big difference when spot lights are added!

I add a blue colour spot light and it looks very haunted!

 Confusion

I like this pose the most and the final outcome is very beautiful which I love a lot! I made one leg behind and one leg forward that provide a walking illusion which is very interesting to experiment with. I like the glossy floor and the long shadow because it shows drama and a scenario. It could be improved by using a darker colour on his body or on the floor as it might signify his facial expression and also move the spot light down as if he is walking away from a crowed street alone. After all, this is the best out of the five and I am very proud of it!

Bravade

Before I can move on to this step, maya has crashed twice which frustrated me a lot and this teaches me to save the project in every 5 minutes or less. I cannot accept my handwork losses due to the stupid technical error especially when using a lot of complicated textured materials in the project.

I try different textures.....

and it crashed without warning when rendering the image....

I was extremely mad at that point and started over unwillingly. I think the pose successfully show bravado with a fist held highly and looking far away which makes him a hero with dreams and termination.

The lighting acts as the sun and the source of hope where he is facing at and I think this tells a lot of story. For his body, I was basically just playing about with different 2D texture and this one is a mesh material that the randomness of the pattern is increased tremendously. I could have improved it by giving him a more suitable body material instead because this soften his look whereas this character should wear something stronger or metal since he is a hero. Also a bright floor in order to show power?( I am not sure so let's try!)
