[Extended Practice]John Piper

John Egerton Christmas Piper CH (13 December 1903 – 28 June 1992) was an English painter, printmaker and designer of stained-glass windows and theatre sets. His work often focused on the British landscape, especially churches and monuments, and included tapestry designs, book jackets, screen-prints, photography, fabrics and ceramics. His work is very inspiring and very close to my ideal style to use in the animation.

I really love the bold lines and layering of colours. The unmatching line with the colours of the building create a traditional printing look.

He uses only a few tones of colour in a drawing which allows a vintage style, leaving appropriate blank spaces in the picture so that it would not over crowded with colours or pattern.

The casual lines is very pretty, very simple but yet expressive. I think the pen/brush really could change the style of the work,

Digitally, I could achieve more than on paper because I could layer texture without waiting them to dry and way more efficient to find collage materials. There is also more choices of brushes. I think the strong outline will works in my animation especially the background as well as the slightly off-position of colours of the buildings. I want to use only a few tones of colours as well to bring that retro/ old tales aesthetics which could be even stressed by apply brownish-filter.
